Constitution

 

Bishop Road Badminton Club

Constitution

 

1. The club

The name of the club shall be Bishop Road Badminton Club and the venue shall be Colston’s Girls School.

 

2. Objectives

To provide playing facilities for the purpose of league and non-league play.

 

3. Membership

Membership is by invitation of the committee. All players upon payment of the annual subscription will become members of the club. All members have the right to vote on all club issues at the AGM (absent members may vote by proxy). Prospective members can be invited to play as visitors for a maximum of three evenings unless visitor status is extended at the discretion of the committee.

 

4. Equal opportunities policy

The club supports the equal opportunities policy of the Avon Badminton Association, as amended from time to time. 

 

The policy is interpreted in two instances as follows:

 

1. Copies of the policy are made available via the committee, club website and a hard copy at the club’s playing venue.

 

2.  As part of the membership invitation process, the committee retains the right to refuse membership where individuals do not meet the minimum standard of play deemed by the committee to be suitable to maintain the standard of club play.

 

5. Child protection policy

The club supports the Child Protection policy of the Avon Badminton Association, as amended from time to time. Copies of the policy are made available via the committee, club website and notice board.

 

6. The Committee

The club will be run by an elected committee of officers who will be elected at the Annual General Meeting.

Officers will comprise:

 

Chairman/Captain

Treasurer

Secretary

Fixture Secretary

Up to three ordinary committee members

 

A member of the committee can only be dismissed through an Extraordinary General Meeting.

In the event of the resignation of any club officer the post can be delegated within the existing committee. Alternatively a successor can be nominated by the committee and notified to all members in writing. If any objections are raised members of the club can call an E.G.M.

 

6.1 Selection

A mixed selection committee comprising of the club captain and four club members will be elected at the AGM. This committee is empowered to select teams and team captains who will represent the club in league matches. If a committee member resigns a replacement may be appointed by the main committee. This appointment can only be overruled at an EGM.

The role of the club captain will be defined by the committee.

 

7. Fees

All fees are decided at the AGM and can only be reviewed at an EGM.

Monies collected will comprise:

Annual subscription

Nightly shuttle fee

Match fee

Visitors fee

Affiliation fees

a)     Visitors’ fees less shuttles fees (up to three nights) will be refunded on joining.

b)     Full time students and registered unemployed will be entitled to pay a reduced rate subscription which is variable and set by the AGM.

c)      Refunds and subscriptions will be at the discretion of the committee.

d)     Fees on late joining will be decided on a pro rata basis at the discretion of the committee.

 

8. Discipline

The committee has the authority to terminate the membership of any player following the calling of an EGM where the member involved is invited to attend and state their case before a decision is made. Witnesses may be called. The committee’s decision is final. Committee members can only be dismissed from office by a vote at an EGM.

 

9. Annual General Meeting

An AGM is to be held within one month of the end of the playing season.  A minimum of two weeks written notice must be given to club members. Items for AGM agenda must be submitted a month before the end of the season in writing.

 

10. Extraordinary General Meeting

An EGM can only be called by two or more club members who must give a minimum of one weeks written notice to all club members stating the purpose.

 

11. Closure of the club

Closure of the club can only by affected at the AGM or at an EGM. When all club creditors have been paid any remaining money will be divided equally among club members.

 

12. Interpretation and amendment of constitution

The committee shall be the sole authority for the interpretation of the constitution.

The constitution may be added to, repealed or amended at an AGM/EGM, the intention of which shall have appeared in the agenda of the meeting.

Proposals to amend the constitution must be given to the committee before the AGM or at the time of announcing an EGM.
